Recipe Scaler
Change a recipe from one serving count to another. Every ingredient is multiplied by the same transparent scaling factor.
Scale factor: 1.500×
Scaled ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1.5 cup milk
- 3 eggs
How to scale a recipe
The scale factor is target servings divided by original servings. A recipe for 4 scaled to 6 uses 6 ÷ 4 = 1.5, so every ingredient quantity is multiplied by 1.5.
Scaling ingredient amounts is deterministic, but cooking behavior is not always linear. Larger batches can need different pans, mixing times, proofing conditions, or cooking times. This tool intentionally changes ingredient quantities only.
For awkward fractions, decimals make the arithmetic easier. You can round the final quantity to the precision your kitchen tools can measure reliably.
Frequently asked questions
How does recipe scaling work?
Divide target servings by original servings to get the scale factor, then multiply every ingredient quantity by that factor.
Can I scale a recipe down?
Yes. A target serving count smaller than the original produces a factor below 1.
Does the scaler change cooking time?
No. Ingredient quantities scale mathematically, but pan size, cooking time, mixing, and temperature may need separate judgment.
Can I enter decimal ingredient amounts?
Yes. Decimal quantities are supported and results are rounded for readability.
